The temple on top
At the hill where now stands this temple was once the hilltop sanctuary from which the city got its name.
I arrived here after dusk and it was closed. From the top you can have great views of the city around.
Entrance 1 USD. Buy the ticket downstairs.
Address: Norodom Blvd.
Some of the skulls
This former extermination camp, also known as "Choeung Ek", is now a tourist attraction. There is not much left to see, but you can have a closer idea of how horrible that period of Cambodia history (1975-78) was.
It is located outside PP, 12 kms southwest. You can reach it hiring a motorbike or there are some guesthouses that organize tours here too.
In this old mass murder scenery of the Khmer Rouge you can see the nass tombs (just the holes) and a memorial that houses hundreds of bones, clothes, chains...
Entrance 2 USD.
A courtyard in the museum
This museum houses a big amount of sculpture, relics and artifacts, but its main highlights are those from the Angkor area- Here you can find the originals of many copies U have seen in Angkor:
- Yama sculpture (Terrace of the Leper King).
- Reclining Vishnu (West Mebon)
It deserves a visit to the courtyard, a fine example of khmer architecture.
Entrance 2 USD, 1 USD extra if you wanna take photos (though nobody controls that).
As you enter the patio, to your left, you will find a water dispenser. Is purified water, not from the tap. I drank it and nothing happened to me. It may be very useful on a hot day.
Besides, the patio has nice benches on the shade where you can have some rest.
Address: Between the 178. and the 184., in the 13th road
Directions: It's right by the Royal Palace.
The pagoda
Other of the main highlights. Is inside the Royal Palace, at the left as you enter.
The floor is covered with silver tiles (thus its name), though most of it is protected by a red carpet.
Inside lives the Emerald Buddha.
Address: Samdech Sothearos Blvd.
Directions: left from the entry to the King“s Palace
The Throne Hall
Undoubtely the main highlight in PP. It is a huge complex containing the Throne Hall, the Royal Residence, the Silver Pagoda and some other pavillions.
You enter by Sothearos Boulevard. Tickets 3 USD.
The main building is the Throne hall (see pic). At the left you will be surprised to see a rather western building. This pavillion was a present of Napoleon III to the king.
By a little gate at the left you enter the Silver Pagoda, with silver tiles and the Emerald Buddha.
Address: Samdech Sothearos Blvd.
