The Royal Palace and the Museum Despite being the capital, I didn't find Phnom Penh specially attractive. It's got a few highlights, but it was definetly not my kind of town... Once there U shouldn't miss the Royal Palace and the National Museum, but even those are not real musts: If you have seen Bangkok's Palace, this is a small version. And if you have seen Angkor, you will find in the museum more of the same stuff: some of the statues in Angkor are replicas and here you will find the originals. |
| | A big village Anyway, if you go by bus you will have to pass by PP, and is a good basecamp, asyou can easily reach from here other parts of the country. The streets are wide and not very noisy, but rather unappealling. |
The horror!! Being the main city in Cambodia, PP was the main goal for Red Khmers's Revolution, and most of its metropolitan population ended up in the rice fields... or in concentration camps. You can see the infamous "Killing Fields" near PP, and imagine the horror it must have been... and it was not so long ago, from 1975 to 1978!! | | |
