I've been to Shanghai twice, first time was in April of 1986, and then in July of 2001.

When I was there in 1986, it seemed that fashionable style was to wear either blue or green Mao outfits. But what a shock, 15 years later, just about everyone was wearing western clothing.

What impressed me back in 1986 was that amount of infrastructure construction that was going around the clock. One time we were headed back to our hotel at 10:30pm, and construction workers were still working on raising a new building.

Coming back 15 years later, I can see fruits of their labor. Today Shanghai is a throughly modern city.
