I grew up near Pasadena so I spent a lot of my youth in this town. For instance, in grade school, I attended a Summer Science program at Cal Tech. Back then I was mainly interested in the cafeteria. It was an "all you can eat" deal. I also took Physics and a FORTRAN programming class.
In high school, I worked on several Rose Parade Floats, gluing on the flowers. And of course attending the Rose Parade in person. These days it looks better on TV. And in college, I attended several Rose Bowl games, whenever U$C played.
Perhaps the most memorable event is when the 1994 World Cup was held in the US. The finals were at the Rose Bowl. My company was a sponsor so we had plenty of tickets to give to customers. But soccer wasn't popular back then and I couldn't give away the tickets and ended up going to the games with friends.
Here's a tip, if you want to view the Rose Floats up close without all the crowds.
Around 10pm on New Years Eve, go to Orange Grove Blvd, between Colorado Blvd to the North and Columbia St. to the South, and you'll see the rose floats lined up to the parade the next morning.
Some people actually line up on Columbia St. to watch the rose floats drive by. I inadvertently happened upon this scene on my way up to Huntington Memorial Hospital and was caught in ttraffic, the Pasadena Plice temporarily blocked my route thru Columbia St so I had a front row seat in my car, watching the floats zoom by for the next 20 minutes.
After the Rose Parade is over, the Rose Floats are moved to Victory Park where the floats can be viewed up close in-person. Victory Park is located between E. Sierra Madre Blvd, N. Altadena Dr. and Paloma St.
The park is open from 7am to 9am for seniors and disabled and 9am-5pm for everyone else. The entrance fee is $6, if your age 3 or under it's free. Tickets are sold up 3:30pm.
- Pros:Tournament of Roses, Rose Parade, Rose Bowl
- Cons:Smoggy and hot in summer.

I love Louises', I should do a Pasadena page, I only live 10 minutes from there - lots to do in Pasadena!!
Nope....Yubert, I still don't think this smelly dead corpse flower is big enough for THAT Elvis! ;->
well, you'll have to learn more about soccer coz it is the most beautiful and most interesting ball game that exist. You're missing alot, especialy beautiful fans ...
American grown men? What’s wrong with holding hands?
That is one big flower!
Great Page!!
