We crossed from Odessa, Ukraine into Moldova. And as you can see from this picture, we're cutting in front of the line of vehicles also waiting to cross the border.
I don't recall the exact excuse or reason we gave to cut in but I think this is where we told the border guards that we're a group of visiting musicians with a tight schedule, and had to play for the President of Moldova.
We also crossed through "Republic of Transdniestria", a breakaway republic of Moldova. Transnistrians are politically aligned towards Russia and the ideals of the former Soviet Union, whereas Moldova is aligned closer to Romania.
While in Transdniestria, we stopped at a Cognac factory. The cognac was very inexpensive. Prices ranged from $1 to $5 per bottle, depending on age and size. I brought back three (3) bottles. |
