Metsovo is a mountainous town, one of the most picturesque towns of Greece, at a height of 1160 m. It has 4000 habitants, being 56 km away from Ioannina and built amphitheatrically on the ruins of the ancient Tymfi - according to the English traveller Hammond. All around Metsovo there are high peaks of Pindos sierra, where five Greek rivers have their springs: Aoos, Arachthos, Aspropotamos, Aliakmon and Pinios.
Active merchants, eminent clergymen, members of Filiki Eteria, great National Benefactors, famous weavers, wood-engravers and goldsmiths originated from Metsovo.
During summer many feasts and performances take place there, organised by the municipality or by local societies. We can say that Metsovo is the most famous touristic place of Epirus.
The temperature ranges from 25°C in summer to -15°C in winter.
