"Pella - the capital city of Alexander the Great" Pella by StefanosS

Pella Travel Guide: 2 reviews and 15 photos

Pella, the capital of the Macedonian State at the beginning of the 4th century BC, reached its largest prosperity during the Hellenistic Years, while it was deserted during the first decade of the 1st century BC after devastations that it suffered, probably because of an earthquake. Long systematic excavations brought to light a great rich city with an excellent organisation, a city worthy of its historical role. Water and drainage systems provided sufficient living conditions for the habitants, while the distribution of houses in the urban planning matrix was developed depending on their size and luxury. The market was located in the center of the city, where all the productive and economic activity of Pella was concentrated.

Greece is out for the time being. Just saw the movie Alexander and was drawn here. Again, nice tips and pics on the birthplace of Alexander the Great.
