Everything that shines IS gold

I shop therefore I am

me, surio71 and call_me_rhia
The first thing that jumped on my mind after a few steps around Dubai was: if someone will ever play the second part of "pretty woman", he will play it here.
A city to enjoy without thinking much of what to see and do, just sitting on the seaside smoking shisha and having a mint tea.
shopping mall

Shopping

This seems to be the main activity in the city, a lot of huge shopping mall where to spend your days.
Let's say something: Dubai is not expensive, taxis are cheap food is cheap and even alcohl is not so expensive for a muslim country.
The only expensive thing is accomodation, but with some researches you can find something you can afford, harder than in many other places though.

Families

What surprised me during my flight from Paris to Dubai was the amount of families with kids that did not let me sleep all the trip.
At the beginning I was wondering why all chosed Dubai, then reflecting a bit it seemed to be a wise choice as it is pretty close(5 hours of flight), totally safe, without food problems and with a nice weather.

Pros:"safe, weather, shishas, food"
Cons:"kitsch, too many cars, an incredible waste of energies for useless stuffs"
In A Nutshell:"not the 7 starts they claim they have"

Handy tips and photos of Dubai. We are passing through Dubai in March on our way to Oman-will spend one day and night in Dubai. It looks a bit 'over the top' for me. I dislike the Burj Al Arab- too ostentatious. but I will love the cruise on the creek.
