The tomb and parfumes city

by xaver - last update: Oct 21, 2003

Why?

forbidden city
Arriving in Hue I kept wondering why I was really going there as everyone (but Paolo utttz) adviced me to skip that city.
May be cause some of the people telling me not to go, were so odd that I could not believe I had their same tastes, may be cause I am simply stubborn, and, before leaving I decided that ai wanted to go there may be may be may be, anyway I went.
Imperial tomb

Why not?

Once arrived, I looked around and thought: ok I was right.
I did not see any special yet, but the atmosphear seemed to me mre relaxed than the north, we were going south, we were going to the coast.

Ok but.....

I really liked this city and could catch the difference betwen people on the north and here, they were getting less shy, they were getting more used to deal with foreigners.
Anyway, my final conclusion is: go to Hue, but if you have to choice betwen Hue and Hoi An....chose Hoi An!

When I visited Hue in 1995 there were hardly any tourists, besides me. So I guess that has changed in the meantime. Hue was the site of a month-long battle after the Tet Offensive of 1968, so that was one reason I wanted to see the place.
