I first saw Girona from the air - while landing at Girona - Costa Brava Airport. And I said to myself 'Wow, how lovely!'
About an hour later, already in Girona centre, again I said 'Wow!' I was amazed to see the Onyar river and everything that goes with it: several bridges, colorful buildings at both banks of the Onyar, Catalan flags allover (although I personally don't think Catalunya should be independent), ripping shutters... Just so romantic! Too bad I was travelling alone :-)
Getting to know Girona (in Spanish: Gerona) better, I discovered it's more than just the bridges and the Houses on the Onyar.
I was admiring different architecture styles in Girona, walking in the Jewish Quarter (as well known as The Call), enjoying watching the view of the city with its surroundings from the medieval walls, visiting incountable gardens. And many, many more!
As to many locations allover Spain, I also got to Girona more on coincidence. I was actually planning to do a roadtrip with my parents whom I should meet at Girona - Costa Brava Airport half hour after my landing.
But as distracted as I am I had confused dates and had booked my flight to Girona one day before.
So, I had an entire day to discover this jewel of the Catalunya. The city is small so I was on the foot the entire afternoon, half of the night and the entire morning next day.
