Luggage And Bags: Suitcase with wheels or a ruckpack...remember that you very often have to walk some to get to the hotel. You can pay someone to carry your bags, can be vise and it does not cost that much to do so. If you arrive Venice by a water bus from airport and getting of at San Marco you can usually find someone there to help you with your luggage. When leaving, ask at the hotel for help. Once again; if several people are travelling together, using a water Taxi can be ok. But ; do agree about the price before you board it....If you look at it as a sighseeing it's not that expencive though!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: You need some good shoes to walk around. Umbrella or a raincoat is also needed and offcourse a bikini or shorts for a swim at Lido if it's summer time. In winter: warm clothes that can keep the cold wind out!
Toiletries & Medical Supplies: Nothing special is required for Italy/Venice- just bring what you normally need if somthing.
Do you know that the hospital in Venice is situated in a 'grand palazzo'. The most beautiful hospital I know of. You find it easily in the area north in Castello. Once again; buy a good map :-)
Photo Equipment: Price is like in Northern Europe = expencive but no problem to buy what you need.
Miscellaneous: Buy a 5 or 7 days card for the vaporetto, then it's easy and cheap to get around. Wherever you go you are never far away from Grand Canal and a vaporetto stop a 'fermata'!
