This temple is a UNESCO site and a must for the tourist in Kyoto. The highlight is obviously the temple itself as the gardens, although very nice, are not in the same league as Kodaiji Temple or others in the Eastern side of the ciry. It gets busy here and tripods are not allowed, so be prepared.
The temple is another UNESCO site and draws the crowds accordingly - especially in autumn. The grounds are worth the time to explore and the best views are from the gardens, looking back at the temple. At night the temple is floodlit, which gives a different perspective of the site.
Just behind the Kiyomizu Temple is the Jishu Shrine, complete with love rocks. It is believed that if you can walk from one to the other with your eyes closed, then true love is very near. You can also buy a love fortune if you can't wait to find out about what lies ahead.
