Whale bones - Antarctica

Whale bones

When in Antartica, we're not participants.

When in Antartica it is important to remember that we are spectators only. This is a reserve and should be left as we find it. (Take only photos and leave only footprints is very applicable here).
The photo here shows the remains from the days of whaling. There are huge whale bones and whalers' boats which are being perfectly preserved in these dry conditions.

Giday mate - Antarctica

Giday mate

the locals are friendly, but have patience.

Don't approach the wildlife - just let them come to you. The rookeries are peaceful places even though there is always a lot of coming and going with the penguins. The younger chicks are curious and you're patience will be rewarded.
Feeding the wildlife was a big no-no. We took nothing from the ship and brought nothing back. Even our boots were rinsed in soapy water after returning each time to the ship. This was to avoid carrying any organisms from one area to another.
