Gyeongju

Gjeonju is one of the highlights of South Korea and if you have the time, it should not be missed.
The town has several huge grass covered hills which are ancient burial mounds scattered around. There is a park where the largest ones are carefully maintained but the cost for the park (1,400 Won) should be considered when you can see the same mounds across the road, just a bit smaller. Other sites include the ancient observatory, fort and palacial recreation area with the pond.
A major attraction of the area is the temple complex (Bulguksa), which is a short local bus ride away (numbers 10 or 11, and cost 1,150 Won).
A day, at a bare minumum, is needed to get an appreciation of the area.
