3 km from the main road, down the fjord is picturesque Mundal. Fjærland has 300 inhabitants and is part of Sogndal municipality.A, most people in Fjærland are engaged in farming and tourism.

Mundal is also Known as “The Book Town” opened in 1996 with several second-hand book shops, approxemately 250.000 second-hand books to sell. (every day from 10 am to 6 pm, 30 April to 18 September).

There is the beautiful Hotel Mundal, built in 1891, is one of the few remaining wooden hotels left in Fjord Norway. (It is open May - September.) and the Fjærland church was built in 1861. (In June - August the church is open to the public between 10 and 18), a grocery store, several, Kaffistova book - café with homemade cakes,
