When a friend invited me to go to Cabo San Lucas with he and his family, I thought, Yeah! His father and step-mother had both bought time-shares, with the idea that they could have the kids go on vacation with them. Lucky me to be included on the trip.
When I first got there, I thought it was the first time I'd been there. Later, when we were on a cruise on the bay, I looked back at the shoreline and realized that it looked incredibly familiar. As it turns out, I'd been there once before -- when I was 5!
When I was 5, my mother crewed on a sailboat from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta. She got as far as Los Angeles, when she missed me too much, and got my father to fly me down to L.A. to join her for the rest of the trip. So we sailed on down to Puerto Vallarta. However, the first port of call, once in Mexico, was Cabo San Lucas. I have a vivid memory from when we anchored out. I could see some huts and a line of palm trees on the shoreline. And as I was taking this vista in, a HUGE manta ray jumped out of the water, did two and a half flips in the air and landed in the bay with a huge, whalopping SPLOSH. YES!
|
