Guggenheim Museum: Some modern art with your Wright architecture?
  • Tip Rating:
  • I'd always wanted to see the Guggenheim, and this trip was the time I finally found. While I wasn't really in to the featured exhibit, "Matthew Garney: The Cremaster," I'm very glad I went. The building itself is beautiful, there were definitely redeeming qualities to The Cremaster and the permanent collection of Manet, Monet, Renoir, Picasso, Cezanne and Degas was marvelous.

  • This was the first view I had of Central Park, as we exited the subway station. If you look carefully, you can see the street sign for Central Park. Nifty!

Central Park: Walking through Central Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • This pathway has cafes and delis on either side, and if you follow the path you'll be going by the zoo. Beautiful in May, isn't it?

  • On the path by the zoo you'll find this charming clock. I wish I'd been there at the top of the hour to see what happened. I suspect the animals would move.

  • Dogwood on steroids

  • In May the dogwood was in full bloom. Gorgeous. So much more vibrant and bloom filled than the dogwoods we see in California (such as in Yosemite). What are they feeding them??

Other Museums/Galleries: Wave UFO - WOW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Johnzane had read about this in the New York Times prior to our visit and showed me the article. We knew we had to check it out. So Johnzane, Cjg1 and I headed to the former IBM building's Atrium and checked out the exhibit. WOW. This set the tone for the whole day! Here's what the Times had to say about it:

''Wave UFO'' by Mariko Mori, a Japanese artist based in New York since 1992, takes interactivity where few have gone before, especially not the people who come to lunch in the bamboo-filled courtyard of the former I.B.M. Building, at 56th Street.

  • This could trigger flashbacks

  • Once you're strapped in to the Wave UFO, you get a truly unique light show, first controled by your brain-waves. After a while, it goes to a truly beautiful light show. This photo shows a small snap-shot of it, but cannot do it justice.

You really must experience it if you've got a chance.

    Hey, it's even free!

  • While waiting to get in to the Wave UFO, I needed to find a restroom. I didn't realize it, but when I left the atrium of the former IBM building, I was entering the Trump Tower. Oh, cool! It has this high, golden/umber fountain that's perhaps 3 stories tall. Nice.

Central Park: Walking through Central Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Tamirros and I met at Columbus Circle one morning and he took me on a great walk through Central Park before we headed to the Upper West Side. What a gorgeous day, great conversation and just fun in general. Thank you Tamir!
