THE STRIP: Yep, you gotta cruise the Strip

  • That's why people visit Vegas, isn't it? I mean, Las Vegas is a huge city now, but all the tourist activity is on The Strip. Now that I think about it, The Strip must be the Las Vegas equivelent of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. Sigh.

New York, New York: New York New York - Impressive on the outside
  • Tip Rating:
  • But we were a bit disappointed by the inside! At least the Casino area. On the inside it feels very much like a big, open room with a dark blue ceiling and lots of flashing lights.

We went to the Big Apple lounge to relax, put up our feet and have a cocktail. Would you believe the so-so apple martinis cost $10 each? Jeez. The apple martinis were rimmed with crushed apple jolly-rancher candy, however, which was an interesting touch.

Excalibur Hotel/Casino: A magic kingdom? I think not.

  • From the outside, the Excalibur looks a lot like a magic castle, a la Disneyland. We thought, "Yeah, we gotta go inside there..." So we went on in and immediately wanted to turn around and get out.

It is supposed to have a King Arthur times feel, but it really just felt tacky tacky tacky. Yuck. As we quickly walked back to the Luxor, Mark said, "I feel really bad for people that have to stay here!!"

Luxor: Hang out in a giant, glass pyramid
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Luxor is a pretty neat building to check out. I stayed there in 1994 and found the room to be comfortable and spacious.

During the holiday season, the interior was a mix of their standard Egyptian motif decorated with Christmas wreathes and such.

Gambling Advice: Throw some money away!

  • I have NO idea why it's fun to do this, but it is... pump money in to some slot machines and enjoy the noises, spinning images and thrill of winning and, usually, losing your money. Just make sure to gamble no more than you can afford to lose.
