My husband grew up in South Lake Tahoe, and his family would go to Heavenly ski resort to ski every Winter Friday and then have dinner at the seafood buffet at this Casino/Hotel.
On New Year's Eve, the street that contains the casinos is blocked off from traffic and the street turns in to a huge party until after midnight. Mark spent his teen New Year's Evenings partying on this block, so for NYE 2004, we decided to spent the night at Harvey's, and ring in the new year there.
The price of rooms nearly triples at all hotels in that area for New Year's eve. On December 30, the price for a standard room was $140. For New Year's Eve, the price was $320. OUCH.
When we checked in, Mark told the clerk at reception how incredibly long it had taken us to get there and nicely asked if it would be possible to get a nicer than standard room. "Would you mind a smoking room? If you don't mind, I can put you in a suite." Okay then!
Unique Qualities: Our suite was FANTASTIC. Not only was it on the 10th (out of 12) floor, but it had a view of both the street where the block party explodes and a view of Lake Tahoe. The suite had a dining table, sofa, two easy chairs, one ottoman, a wonderful king sized bed, wet bar, mini-bar, double-sized jacuzzi, a television in the bathroom, robes, and windows that opened. Thank you Harvey's!
