Mom, they sent me to New Zealand

I can't deny that it is a very special feeling you get when you plant your feet on the other side of the planet from where you were born. In 1999, the company I worked for sent me to New Zealand, which certainly is as far away from my point of origin as I could possibly get without getting my feet wet and freezing. And the three weeks there just made me want more. Even before we landed, seeing Wellington from above made me burst out, "This feels like home."<p>
As with most "remote" areas of the world, this is where civilization really is; people actually use modern technology, talk to eachother and eat good food. And even though McDonald's was the first shop to cast its neon lights on my retina, even they had a Kiwi variety that tasted better than the same meal anywhere else in the world.
