Geneva was our final stop in Switzerland before we transfer back to Zurich to catch our night flight to Singapore. We arrived by train from Montreux in late afternoon and stayed in Geneva for 2 nights. As our luggage was getting weighty (mostly loaded with souvenirs and Toblerones hehe), we decided to just carry with us what is vital for that 2 nights and left our baggages at the lockers in the trainstation. This we have done several times throughout our trip - Very Safe! (although do carry your valuable things like money, credit cards, important identification documents with you). . Geneva is located in the Rhone Valley at the southwestern corner of Lake Geneva in between the Jura Mountains and the Alps. It's a French speaking city, surrounded by French territory, connected to Switzerland only by the lake and a narrow corridor. Geneva is a perfect city to explore on foot. . It has lots of world-class hotels, most of which are clustered around the railway terminal or stretched out along the lakefront. But be warned - Geneva hosts many international conferences and conventions, so many of its hotels are booked months in advance. We had problems getting our choice of hotels 4 months prior we left for Geneva! Anyhow, we settled to stay in a small hotel located at the rue de Chantepoulet. The host speaks French, but no worries, she does speak English too. Although I think (from my personal experience) they appreciate foreigner attempting to speak their language, even if its just lil greetings and small talks. . Enjoy exploring this lovely city. |
