. We arrived Zürich-Kloten Airport at 630am after a 13hours flight from Singapore by Swissair. This international airport is the biggest airport in Switzerland and among the top 10 busiest airport in Europe. The airport is approximately 7miles from the city centre and takes about 10minutes or less to reach the Hauptbahnhof. Train schedules are frequent - about 15 to 20minutes from as early as 5:36am till 12:20am. . Honestly, I was pretty excited on this trip, being my first winter trip to Europe. The last few days before leaving for Switzerland I have been checking out on the weather conditions of different cities in Switzerland and appeared that few cities we'll be visiting in Switzerland were still snowing and that year was when Switzerland had the heaviest snowfalls in a decade and I thought (to myself): "wow we could play with snow!!!". Ummm ... my excitement somewhat deterred after 15 seconds stepping out of Zürich-Kloten airport, I thought I made a mistake for being in Switzerland in winter and missing sunny Singapore already - pretty discouraged by the freezing weather that morning. We hurried ourselves and hopped onto the train that took us to Zürich Hauptbahnhof (main station). Once in the train, it didn't feel so bad, with some heater it was more like Singapore. In about 10minutes or so, we reached the city centre and were ready to conquer the city! It helped that our luggages have been arranged to be connected by Fly-rail-baggage and we'll collect them in Lucerne train station later that afternoon - that saved us the inconvenience having to drag those loads and our hands were free to shop shop :) . One of the most elegant and luxurious shopping streets in the world lies at the Bahnhofstrasse. Most fine and fashionable street and the Zürichers are particularly proud of this one. Nothing here that suits my pocket though. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable window-shopping experience ;) . Come with me and explore the rest of this exuberant city. |
