    Festivals: Religious festivals
  • Tip Rating:
  • Religious festivals
    .
Travelling to KL during the week of main religious festivals such as Hari Raya Puasa and Chinese New Year -- you will find that many shops, shopping centres are closed and deserted streets. Like many big cities in Europe, KL city dwellers mostly arrived from smaller towns and other states to work in big cities. And they normally celebrate religious festivals with their family back home. Hotels are aplenty during this period, but getting taxis can be lil difficult and so are hawker foods.. Prior your visit, check the calendar if you want to avoid visiting during this period.
    .
A famous local cartoonist 'Lat' sketched a carricature of KL roads whereby people could sleep in the middle of the road when city dwellers 'balik kampong' during Hari Raya festival .. hehe
    .
This is a 'scanned' picture of the 'songket'. Handloomed songket is woven with gold, siver and cotton thread to produce intricate designs and a rich cloth fit for royalty

    Local Customs: Taxis
  • Tip Rating:
  • Taxis: Travelling in taxis are inexpensive but some KL's taxi drivers need reminding to switch on their taxi meters. Taxis at the KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) though operates
buy buying your ticket first at the booth outside the arrival hall (before you exit). The trip to KL city will take about 45minutes (that is when the traffic is smooth) and cost approximately RM70.
