Getting TO/AROUND: There are various modes of travel to get to this country -- air, rail, road and ferry.
.
In Kuala Lumpur by
taxis is affordable and convenient. The fare is RM2 for the first 2km and 10 cents for every 200metres thereon. A surcharge of 50% is levied between midnight and 6am.
.
Bus and
minibus interconnect the city, but these could be confusing for first time visitors ..well, not only first time visitors, but having visited KL many times, I am still confused with the bus routes. In addition the buses usually gets very crowded and the bus drivers are rather reckless (through my few personal minibus rides in KL).
.
Light Rail Transit
(LRT) train system link the eastern and western suburbs in and outskirts of KL, but is not particularly convenient to many tourist destinations. However the LRT passes through the business district and Chinatown.
.
Getting around overland: Regular private
bus services operate at the various bus stations for interstate trip. They are inexpensive, efficient and pretty convenient and usually are airconditioned.
.
Pudu Raya Bus Station, Jalan Pudu -- to the north and south and also Singapore.
.
Bangunan MARA, Medan Mara, Jalan Raja Laut -- to the north and south
Putra Bus Station (opposite the Putra World Trade Centre) -- to the east coast.
.
Pekeliling Bus Station, Jalan Tun Razak -- to the east coast
.
Alternatively travel by
train (KTM = Keretapi Tanah Melayu) which runs all the way into Singapore (Tanjong Pagar railway station or Woodlands checkpoint) and to Padang Besar (Perlis in the north of Malaysia). KTM also operates the eastern link that runs to the East Coast states.
