April 2002,
Is it a political act to denounce war, injustice and oppression? Or just the least we can do as a human being?
What's going on nowadays is just bloody, criminal, stupid and cruel. Why does any country acts concretely for peace between palestinian and israelien, between christian, muslim and jewish? They are all brothers aren't they? 40% of the kuran concerns the two others monotheism, they all have a common origin and a common God!
All this blood has nothing to do with religion, it is merely human, political... and economical!
Can the situation become worse? this is what we wonder... and it become worse everyday.
However no fatalism is allowed. Who are responsible for those crimes, victims?... mad human. Find the origins of the conflict and the solutions are there.
March 2001,
I'm sad seeing what's happening between Palestinian and israelien people. I can't imagine the old Jerusalem in a war atmosphere; I went there in July 1999 with a friend, Victoria. It was my first trip outside Europe and I entirely organized it by myself (I'm reluctant to all organized tour even if I know that it is necessary for some people) .
I've been to Jerusalem, Eilat, Masada and I came back to Jerusalem. I wanted to go to the north but finally I prefered staying in Jerusalem.
I met jews, muslims, christians... and I always found something interesting in their personality, mentality... even if I was sometimes totally opposed to what they were saying. For exemple, coming back from the Mont of Olives, I talked until the night with a seller in the muslim quarter; he was in favour the Charia and had very hard positions concerning the place of women in the society...but we were talking together!! He was talking to me while white women like me are the symbol of what he and others reject. And me, I wasn't angry at him while I'm the "incarnation" of the daughter of "Human rights"... : ) We could exchange views with arguments in peace!!
I don't say that all was fantastic, that this country is marvellous, that all people are kind and tolerant! There is segregation (you say I'm in the Jew, Muslim... quarter..), there is opression, police, army were everywhere. In the old city I could go to the Western wall, walk in the streets without any danger because of it. Palestinian lack of rights, their dignity wasn't respected... But, I loved this town, I can't say something else. You can hear the muezzin, the sound of the bells and the jews prayers at the same time. The dome of the rock and the atmosphere of the place are incredible. The streets and the old rocks, the light during the night, the warm temperature... made me feel good...
Anyway, in Eilat, it was an other planet. Full of big hotel, touristic areas... But, go to the aquarium that is extraordinary. I went one day to the desert (not far of course) in camel and the last night I did a pool. That's all.
Masada, I climbed the mount early, I saw the sunrise, enjoy the landscape and have a rest.
I hope I will go back to Jerusalem one day, without fear, in peace, and be able to walk freely, meet and talk to people like during this July 1999.
