I've spent three weeks in Nicaragua with four other friends. We did a humanitarian project in a village next to Managua: Tisma. It was a project of clean water for a part of the village. We've worked a few days with all the population concerned. But before being able to start working an earthquake took place, so, all the region was in an emergency state. People were afraid of course. We lived with a family who had also a "basic basic" restaurant and we could share their daily life, their fear and axperience...you can't forget it! All people we met were friendly and they were not used to meeting people from "the other continent". Some people had a lot to say about the story of the country, their ideals, their fights, the dictatorship...most of them are very conscient politically I mean. We spent the last week of our trip visiting Granada and Leon and what was around. Streets and transportation are very basic and you will never feel like a "tourist apart" disconnected from people there. You can't but talk to them everywhere...anyway, you always have to ask your way and how to use transport, find an hotel... |
