Right at the start of our thirty day tour through Indonesia, we spent three nights at a lodge in Tangkahan on the edge of the Gunung Leuser national park, not very far from Bohorok. To get to the lodge, we had to cross a river by means of a small ferry and a canoe.

With Tangkahan as our starting point, we made a short tour through the jungle, and Jennie rode on an elephant. From Tangkahan we moved southwards to Lake Toba and Balige, and onwards to the land of the Mandailing Batak.

Was in Tangkahan(paradise) in late Sept, stayed at Jungle Lodge too- great place. Trekked the river with Sylvia the owner, laid in hot springs, did tubing on river, rode elephant, scrubbed him too. What memories!

Nice photo, but I question the safety of riding the raft, especially in that rapid and were there life jackets on board? Nice page.
