    • This was our lodging in Wadi Rum - not the only option, fear not, but a good choice for the budget traveller as Jordan is not as inexpensive as other Middle Eastern countries. We felt completely safe, and even left our bags unattended and unlocked for hours on end with no incident. We paid 2 Jordanian Dinar each for this priveledge, were allowed access to the facilities, and were given mattresses, pillows and extra blankets. Seriously, we all had such a great night's sleep! I would definitely do this again.

    • These were our digs in Petra, a hostel called Twaissi Inn (205 Wadi Mousa tel-03-2156423). Again, we opted for the cheapest room - the roof. This friendly hostel offered free transportation to Petra, although it is also in walking distance. They also had nightly movies (Don't you dare ask for Indiana Jones, they are sick of it!), delicious meals, and internet access. This was again a good, comfortable night's rest, although don't plan on sleeping in as some of the early morning sounds you will hear are, donkey's braying, vehicles, muslim sunrise prayers, roosters etc. Kind of nice though to lie there warm and cozy and take in the atmosphere.
