<B><font color=chocolate>On our New Year Benelux trip (more funky details on my Darmstadt page) Cologne came in unplanned. We had to spend the night near Darmstadt, which left us with plenty of time for the next day, and since all of us heard that Cologne was either spectacular or vibrant, we decided to check it out. It was a really brief visit - two hours or so altogether - but our seasoned antennae managed to touch the atmosphere and spot a peculiarity or two.
We got there at about noon and were happy to find the city rather peaceful traffic-wise. We found a parking spot for our heavily tried Jetta without difficulties and decided to walk as far as the Cathedral, or Dom, as it is better known. While we were at it, we went to look for somewhere to have a snack and a cup of coffee. It was the first time in Cologne for all four, so we were quite surprised to find the Cathedral standing practically inside the Central Railway Station. Great, we thought - we won't waste time running from one place to another. Everything was right there.
And as we looked for something to eat inside the station building, everything was indeed right there! Just any sort of food (OK, mostly fast) was available, and we had to think hard to arrive at the conclusion where to eat. I was positively shocked with the selection. Although I've been to quite a few railway stations, I've never seen a selection so big as in Cologne. As I was sitting behind the table in the Asian fast food biting at my tasty and cheap tempura, I decided I'll always come to the station for a Sunday lunch if I ever live in Cologne!

Oh, and before I forget: go see the Cathedral. No admission, great reputation, quite impressive. I loved the crib and the organ which hangs from the wall about 20 m above the floor (!). And that, I'm afraid, is all I have to say about Cologne!
