Don't forget the older casinos such as The Flamingo, The Frontier and The Stardust -- not as glitzy -- but of more than nostalgic interest.

NOT Wayne -- the Stardust:) Although Wayne Newton is as much of a local institution as the hotel! He was one of the first to have a dedicated showroom for his performances!

As you leave the last of the wedding chapels behind you on Las Vegas Blvd you see this sign -- pointing to the REAL downtown for those who live here:)

You'll find incredible red rock formations and ancient petroglyphs in this state park. Entrance fee is $5 per car and well worth it. There is an excellent visitors center nad everything is well marked. And it's only an hour from Las Vegas! . Be sure to wear good walking shoes, wear a hat and carry a bottle of water. The heat can catch up with you before you know it. . I will add my own pictures when I get home.

I'm sure it just refers to the car -- but in Las Vegas you're never sure! Be sure to click on the picture for the full effect:) . One of the nice things is that all the large casinos on the strip have free parking in enormous garages. I must say you see some rather fancy cars there -- that's why this one caught my eye:)

And is standing on the sidewalk on Las Vegas Blvd! Traffic was slow enough that I could get this shot as well as observe the impersonation -- it wasn't half bad!

The tour of the Ethel M chocolate factory ends with a free sample! It was a holiday the day we went through so there wasn't much activity. Here you see some satin creme filling being mixed -- that's a BIG pile of butter off to the left!!! . Do NOT miss the cactus garden. For my pictures please visit the travelogue on this page.

Following Bellagio with its art gallery, The Venetian has an outpost of New York's Guggenheim Museum. [In collaboration with St. Petersburg's famous Hermitage] This is actually very appropriate as there is also a branch in the REAL Venice. Shows vary. There are discounts for seniors and local residents, although it is free if you are staying at The Venetian.

Only an hour from Las Vegas you will find yourself in cool[er] mountain air and among pine trees. Take I-15 to 95 to 157. . You can visit the Spring Mountain Visitor Center and have lunch at the Mt. Charleston Hotel. Or even spend the night :)
