THE STRIP: Take a drive up the strip ...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Driving "the strip" from the south end to the north can be frustrating if you are in a hurry, but absolutely fascinating if you are not. You'll pass through Las Vegas history from the new, New York, New York to the old, The Flamingo and many stops between. It's a "don't miss" way to get an overview without wearing yourself out!

  • There are many wedding chapels in Las Vegas -- a number line the east side of Las Vegas Blvd as you head north. Please see my travelogue for sampling of your options:)

Venetian Hotel/Casino: Ride a gondola at The Venetian
  • Tip Rating:
  • For $15.00 a person you get a gondola ride and a song from your gondolier. For $60 you get the gondola to yourself! The line was long -- reservations are recommended!
    .
I was told that they hire for the voice and teach you how to pole a gondola later :) The gondoliers [both male & female] seemed to be really into the fiction!

Madame Tausaud's: Hang out with celebrities who don't talk back:)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Visit Madame Tussaud's at The Venetian and meet famous people ... no autographs ... but plenty of chances to take pictures.
    .
Here I am adoring Michael Jordan!

    Mirage: Visit The Mirage Rainforest
  • Tip Rating:
  • When the Mirage first opened the Rainforest was an eyecatching innovation. On a recent visit I dropped by again to see how it was holding up under the competition of the newer themed hotels and the answer is JUST FINE!!
    .
You'll find the Rainforest just inside the hotel's front door -- the dome is 100 feet high and it takes 4 people to maintain the space.

Bellagio Conservatory: The Bellagio Garden: Summer 2004 -- I

  • A highlight of a visit to Bellagio are the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. Seasonally themed, the summer show strikes the chords of patriotism and American summer pastimes.

Bellagio Conservatory: The Bellagio Garden: Summer 2004 -- II
  • Tip Rating:
  • The first thing you see in the summer 2004 display is this young woman holding a bunch of balloons. The long strings emphasize how spacious the conservatory is.

  • Caesar's Palace is for me the most overblown tasteless hotel-casino etc... in Las Vegas. [And I don't want to think what the other is if you prove me wrong:(]
    .
The statues are certainly not from MY art history textbook -- and they are everywhere, both inside and out!
    .
    And you gotta see it!

  • Just a reminder that Las Vegas at night is stunning! And don't miss the aquarium that forms the backdrop for the check in desk at The Mirage.

  • For my $$$ The Venetian is the best of the "themed" hotels. The detail is stunning both inside and out. Please visit the travelogue to see more.

Nice tips, it looks like the Venetian is a must. It is nice to see someone who isn't afraid to say the Ceasar's Palace is over blown---very helpful, think we will skip that one.
