Spanish snacks on Wheaton's main street! - Wheaton
Emilio's Tapas: Spanish snacks on Wheaton's main street!

Emilio runs a small restaurant empire that introduced Spanish tapas to the Chicago area. The most elegant version is Meson Sabika in Naperville. While the food here in Wheaton was similar, the decor wasn't as elegant, nor was the service more than pleasantly harried. Comfortable for a casual tasty meal -- but not for an "event".

Favorite Dish: Seared tuna "carpaccio" with ginger-fruit relish and toast points.

Address: 230 W Front Street

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: Go north on West street from Roosevelt Rd. and turn right on Front St. There is a free parking garage behind the stores on the north side of the street.

Tate's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shop: Where locals go to chill out!

40 years of Wheatonians can't be wrong! That's how long this ice cream emporium has been dishing it out on Front St. Outside benches give patrons a place to sit in warmer weather as they devour their goodies:)

Suburban French-Vietnamese worth a detour - Wheaton
L'Anne: Suburban French-Vietnamese worth a detour

Probably the best restaurant in Wheaton's "restaurant row" on W. Front St. While the chef has changed several times the food just seems to get better! It's a small place so reservations would be a good idea.

Favorite Dish: Where to start? Well the usual soft spring rolls have roasted peanut sauce. I enjoyed the salad of scallops on marinated green papaya. A "don't miss" is the Vietnamese bouillabaisse with lobster, fish and Asian greens in a coconut curry.

Address: 221 W. Front St

Comparison: more expensive than average

Directions: Go north on West street and take the first right after you cross the railroad tracks.
