Nightlife Spot: Lyric Opera of Chicago
Chicago's premier opera company celebrates its 50th anniversary in the 2004-2005 season. Check their website for more information. . Their schedule always includes old favorites as well as more modern fare and usually something a little lighter. . They have a super outreach program for students. . The pictures were taken during our recent visit to see Lucia di Lammermoor with the stunning French soparano, Natalie Dessay.

Dress Code: Dressy -- often upscale, trendy and/or artistically interesting. Definitely the time for your most avant-garde outfit! . On the main floor and first balcony you'd not be comfortable in jeans & sneakers, although coat/tie is far from mandatory!

Nightlife Spot: Orchestra Hall
After a much ballyhooed renovation that gobbled up some of the surrounding area, the home of the Chicago Symphony has broadened its reach., adding jazz and other more popular attractions to the mix. . It remains the home of the famed Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Nightlife Spot: Cadillac Palace Theater
The Cadillac Palace Theater is one of several old theaters in Chicago used for Broadway shows, either heading in or heading out. It is run by the same group that schedules for the Oriental & Schubert Theaters also. The Hotel Allegro shares the building with the theater as do the restaurant 312 Chicago and the bar Encore. It doesn't take much to guess who paid for the renovation ;) . Recent shows have included The Producers, Peter Pan, Les Miserables and The Lion King.

Nightlife Spot: Goodman Theatre
The Goodman Theatre moved from it's home behind the Art Institute to this location on Dearborn just south of the Chicago River, adding to the theatrical options in the Loop. The productions are less commerical and more adventurous than the other theaters in the North Loop area.
