"Travemunde" Neu Travemünde by shrimp56

Neu Travemünde Travel Guide: 24 reviews and 93 photos

I visited Germany many times in the 70s. My brother worked there for 10 years and he married a woman from Lubeck. But all my pictures are in slides or misplaced so this faded Polaroid shot is all I have right now.
.
Yet this is a special picture of a special place. This is the Strand-Perle Hotel in Travemunde on the boardwalk on the Baltic Sea. I stayed there for a week -- my room was the one on the right in the roof with the red geraniums. I spent a lot of time watching German television -- especially East German. We could see the lights of East Germany from the hotel. It was a different era.

UPDATE: I have found and added more pictures that I took with my regular camera.
.
In this picture you can see the wonderful rattan beach chairs as well as one of the large ferryboats that brought people by sea to Travemünde.

A better picture of the Strand-Perle Hotel -- but certainly less nostalgic than the one above:)

Haha, that's right as Christian said about the Western/Eastern TV. Did you watch/look for Honecker and trabi cars there? Nice page, I like esp. lovely picture of Strandperle Hotel.

That's interesting. We always tried to watch West German television and you did the opposite. Nice page, Sally!

Sally, you would be surprised, how much that area around Lübeck has changed since Germany was reunited! Lovely memories! Have a very happy New Year!
