I took these pictures in 1985, just at the beginning of <i>glasnost</i> and the ending of the communist era. The monument is designed to resemble both ships' anchors [the movement originated in the Gdynia shipyards nearby] and the Christian cross.

Gdansk just gets better and better. It ages like a fine old wine. I finally got there this past summer. No disappointments at all. Solidarity monument & museum a favorite.
