Skopje: A City for All Seasons

mirjana51 & shrimp56 together in Skopje!
Today [11 July 2004] I met mirjana51 for coffee. We had a lovely time together -- picture next week :)
-------------------------
But there is more to Skopje than being the capital city of the Republic of Macedonia. Skopje bridges many cultures and many worlds -- from the minarets of the mosques to the domes of the monastery churches.
.
The food [ah yes the FOOD] reflects the passage of many peoples through the region. From burek, to ajvar with stops at kisela zelka and tavce gravce -- well it's slow food and slow eating! Then there are the tomatoes and ..yup.. rakija -- but I love most the red wine called t'ga za jug.

NEWS FLASH!!

Apparently the guard "stand" [the part sticking up on the old stone bridge] fell into the Vardar when they were trying to replace the iron railing :(

A new icon for a new millenium ...

I remember Skopje through its historical images.

1. Kameni Most [above]
2. The Old Train Station [ see General Tips]
3. And the new Millenium Cross on top of Vodno mountain -- brought to my eyes by the pictures of a young Macedonian friend.
------------
I will look forward to seeing it on the top of Vodno when we visit Skopje again next summer.
