Brno is an industrial/commercial city with a beautiful, but under-renovated, historical core. [ VT-ers have informed me that it has since been somewhat renovated. ] . It is in the part of Czech Republic called Moravia and is 2 hours from Vienna by train. There are several interesting museums, particulary the modern art and decorative arts ones and some charming old buildings as well as a rather confused cathedral, architecturally speaking. . It is also, unfortunately, a place where the Nazis imprisoned and killed many people during WWII. . The picture above is a view over Brno from Spilberk Hrad [castle] on a hill that overlooks Brno |

Thanks. | JetlagCity Tue Feb 1, 2005 00:36 UTC I can deal with the gothic/baroque mix (found that a bit in Prague, too), but skinheads?? Yikes!!! | Nemorino Sat Jan 1, 2005 22:46 UTC Much as I like trains, I think I could do without those announcements all night long. Glad you got a room on the town side the next time. -- Happy New Year and best wishes from Frankfurt. |
