"When in December ..." Canterbury by shrimp56

Canterbury Travel Guide: 491 reviews and 1,026 photos

Many of us have been delighted by or suffered through the words of Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" -- fortunately the modern pilgrimage is less onerous [the train system willing] -- bawdiness is up to you:)
.
The center of the town is, of course, the cathedral -- but there are many other interesting sites here along the river Stour.

From Chaucer to Thomas a Beckett this is one historical town! I visited here when my husband spent his sabbatical at a local college. As you can see the December weather wasn't cooperating!
.
The picture is of High Street and one of the old city gates. [West Gate I think.] You can see the little Christmas trees cantilevered from the buildings.

I want to stay in the Cathedral Gate Hotel ... I looked it up on the web and it looks perfect. Are there taxis or buses from the train station to city center?

Nice pictures and great info. I visited Canerbury many years ago in February. The weather was very dull then too.
