"When in December ..." Canterbury by shrimp56
Canterbury Travel Guide: 491 reviews and 1,026 photos
Many of us have been delighted by or suffered through the words of Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" -- fortunately the modern pilgrimage is less onerous [the train system willing] -- bawdiness is up to you:)
.
The center of the town is, of course, the cathedral -- but there are many other interesting sites here along the river Stour.
From Chaucer to Thomas a Beckett this is one historical town! I visited here when my husband spent his sabbatical at a local college. As you can see the December weather wasn't cooperating!
.
The picture is of High Street and one of the old city gates. [West Gate I think.] You can see the little Christmas trees cantilevered from the buildings.

I want to stay in the Cathedral Gate Hotel ... I looked it up on the web and it looks perfect. Are there taxis or buses from the train station to city center?

Wonderful page Sally! You make me want to go here again so much!!
Even though it was dark and dreary the pictures came out well. But no bawdry tales to tell?
Hi Sally, a very truthfull and well written page. I live only 15 miles from canterbury and only yesterday i lost my bloody wing mirrors driving through westgate hahahaha.
Nice pictures and great info. I visited Canerbury many years ago in February. The weather was very dull then too.
Great pages. I was here last weekend! :)
