LIVE from Avignon! Pictures to follow! The TGV from Paris to Avignon is astounding -- a little over 2 1/2 hours! I think my body is still in central France! On the way down I saw a couple of chateaux, many sheep and Cezanne's mountains. I use the world "see" loosely. At the speed we were going...
Avignon is a bit of a decrepit Disneyland, but it is charming. I am staying at Hotel de L'Horloge right on the square. I've mostly wandered around finding things for our atudents who arrive tomorrow, but managed a lovely dinner at Le Lutrin in Hotel Palais des Papes. I had a delicious daube a l'avignonaisse for 12.50 euro. Not bad. Neither was the red wine! The Palais des Papes was all lit up at night as were the theatre and the city hall. This is a lovely town.
A bientot! |

Nemorino Mon Jul 23, 2007 12:47 UTC Yes, the TGV is astounding. I took the new TGV-Est on the first day of service from Paris to Strasbourg. How did your students cope with Avignon? I loved it the one time I was there; it was a three-day stop on a bicycle tour in May 1963. | tini58de Sat Jan 27, 2007 18:32 UTC Great start, Sally! Waiting and hoping for more! | hunterV Mon Jan 1, 2007 19:44 UTC Oh. what a great place to visit! |
