The Waterlilies [the one we saw in June:)] To enjoy a trip to Monet's house and gardens you don't have to admire the paintings of Claude Monet -- the gardens are simply beautiful in their own right. But for those who know Monet's works you can see his images at every turn. Of course the waterlilies are central to his imagery. Unfortunately in June they were not out in full force. But then we can turn to his paintings instead:) . Giverny is about 50 miles northwest of Paris -- we took a bus tour as it's not easy to do by public transportation. The pictures were taken in July 1992. . There are three parts to Giverny itself: Monet's house, the flowering gardens and then, across the road [reached via a pedestrian underpass] the famous waterlilies. . Giverny is open daily except Mondays from 9.30 am to 6.00 pm -- from the end of March to the end of October. . For more information on Giverny: http://giverny.org/ |
