The Sydney Opera House is the image that we all immediately know as SYDNEY! The tour is interesting -- you learn a lot about the struggles to get it built -- and, surprisingly, that the several theaters inside are structurely separate from the outside 'skin' -- and were, in fact, designed by someone other than the original architect. I will put up a travelogue of pictures from the tour later! But for now the classic 'shot' from near Inner Harbour.

This is the second most recognized Sydney icon after the opera house -- on New Year's Eve 2000 the fireworks over this bridge looked great even on TV!

The Rocks is the place where the first convict ships landed in Australia. This is supposed to be the first building. It used to be shameful to admit that your forebearers were common English criminals, but now it's considered very chic to be 'First Fleet'. I have a good friend down in Canberra who is 'FF' on BOTH sides of the family! He looks fine to me:)

There are some wonderful old buildings here. The trendy restaurant scene was just developing when I was there in '95, but this is the place to go for nice bars and good food!

In the central part of Sydney there are spectacular views any way you turn. This is a view back to the 'inner harbour' from the promenade leading to Bennelog Point and the Sydney Opera House.
