  • Someplace between Musee Picasso and the Beauborg we passed a side of a building that offered this commentary on modern life:)

  • These plates were on exhibit in a gallery window under the arches of Place des Vosges. These were the least anatomical, but the strangest of those shown.

  • And if you do wander you will find what remains of the Jewish Marais centered around rue de Rosiers. The Hamman may be a store rather than a bath and Goldenbergs may be closed, but there is still plenty to see and eat from the funky Hollywood Bagel to Sacha Finkelstein's apple strudel, latkes, pastrami, gefilte fish & chicken livers with onions.
    .
Historically Le Marais was a swampy area outside the walls of the medieval city where the Jews and other undesirables lives. In sweet revenge the area is today one of the hippest and most interesting places to stay, eat and walk.

  • Place des Vosges in the autumn
  • by shrimp56

  • In the summer you would be hard put to see the grass for the people lolling on it. In the autumn the rustling leaves provide an aura of chill and remoteness worthy of a square whose beginnings date to 1604.
    .
Travelling to Paris in late autumn can be very rewarding -- for the quiet and the chance to see locations such as this with their "bones" showing as it were ...

  • A window full of fanciful shoes caught my eye in the Marais. They LOOKED wearable -- but can you imagine strolling down the street in these?
    .
The windows in Paris are often full of interesting surprises.

  • On the left we have what is claimed to be the "authentique" cat of Edith Piaf. I'm clueless on the hair-roller. **UPDATE: Apparently it is no longer there :(**
    .
The other is a metal cat from the window of a gallery at Place des Vosges.

  • This is a church that is hidden in plain sight. There are so many churches to visit in Paris that we tend to glaze over. But don't miss this one! The chandeliers and the "Tree of Jesse" window are reasons enough to stop by. The organ dating from the mid 1700s, is one of the best in Paris. Frequent concerts are given. It is a quiet respite from the bustling nearby streets.

  • Just to the side of the Pantheon is this statue to the famous French writer Corneille -- needless to say some prankster thought his wardrobe needed some updating :)

  • Arene de Lutece is Paris' genuine Roman arena left over from the Roman occupation of these parts in the 1st century CE. At this time was called Lutetia. The only other Roman remains are the public baths at the Cluny.

I am so diggin' your Paris pages! We're off to France next year to visit our daughter who will be studying in Lyon. Of course we'll see Paris while we're there. I look forward to reading all your tips and viewing the pix!

Bravo, simply. One comment: Smoking in Paris (and in France) is strictly not allowed till more thant 1 year, in all public areas (station, bar, night-club, restaurants...). The only exception is in dedicate open air areas.
