And if you do wander you will find what remains of the Jewish Marais centered around rue de Rosiers. The Hamman may be a store rather than a bath and Goldenbergs may be closed, but there is still plenty to see and eat from the funky Hollywood Bagel to Sacha Finkelstein's apple strudel, latkes, pastrami, gefilte fish & chicken livers with onions. . Historically Le Marais was a swampy area outside the walls of the medieval city where the Jews and other undesirables lives. In sweet revenge the area is today one of the hippest and most interesting places to stay, eat and walk.

A window full of fanciful shoes caught my eye in the Marais. They LOOKED wearable -- but can you imagine strolling down the street in these? . The windows in Paris are often full of interesting surprises.

Arene de Lutece is Paris' genuine Roman arena left over from the Roman occupation of these parts in the 1st century CE. At this time was called Lutetia. The only other Roman remains are the public baths at the Cluny.

sdjeff4sc Sat Apr 5, 2008 03:54 UTC Shrimp, Love your page, but I ate at L'Ecluse (Grand Augustins) in October and tried the Tagliatelle - it was horrible! The pasta was rubbery and the foie gras was the worst I had. Not your fault, but I wouldn't eat there again. | Karolina01 Tue Feb 5, 2008 23:45 UTC I am checking the hotels for now, and I saved some of your websites. I'll come back to look at the other tips. Thank you. | mancera Fri Jan 18, 2008 19:44 UTC Like you Paris on my mind and my heart... I have the hope to be able to travel to Paris and to know it meanwhile...
