Arrondissements (sections of Paris): In 'my' part of the 7eme, of...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: After staying in the 5e & 6e we returned to the Invalides/ Eiffel Tower part of the 7e. It's quieter, but it feels like OUR Paris.
    .
In 'my' part of the 7eme, of course, you must visit the Eiffel Tower, Invalides, the Rodin Museum and many wonderful places to eat and drink! This area of Paris is upscale and residential. It is anchored by the Rue Cler market street where you can buy fresh produce, baked goods, meat and a wide variety of cheeses ... not to mention chocolate!

Fondest Memory: I miss most just sitting in a cafe with a glass of wine or orangina and watching the Parisian world unfold.

    General Tips: Ecole Militaire -- * 7e
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Here I'm standing between Ecole Militaire and the Eiffel Tower on Champ de Mars The intervening monument is a war memorial.
    .
Here's a great site for information and pictures of Champ de Mars.
    http://www.parisrama.com/

Fondest Memory: Just walking around whatever neighborhood I'm staying in -- in this case the 7th.

    Invalides: An uncommon view ... * 7e
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: After you "do" Les Invalides [and you can walk through the courtyard without paying the entrance fee] take a stroll -- eerrrmm ... maybe a stumble on the cobblestones -- towards Pont Alexander. It's nice to cross the bridge and look back at Invalides.
    .
I titled this "uncommon view", because usually the pictures of Invalides are of the gilded dome which is barely peeking below the flag. To the left as you walk towards the Seine you will get a good view of the Eiffel Tower.

Montmartre & Sacré Coeur: View FROM Montmartre * 18e
  • Tip Rating:
  • Paris Montmartre & Sacré Coeur
  • Paris at your feet
  • by shrimp56

  • Favorite Thing: Well I can't select ONE favorite thing -- but high on the list would be this view over Paris FROM the terrace in front of Sacre Coeur. Among the landmarks that are visible are Notre Dame on Ile de la Cite and the Pantheon in the Latin Quarter.

Fondest Memory: Wandering around the backside of Montmartre -- getting away from the crowds and into the streets where people live.

Montmartre & Sacré Coeur: View OF Montmartre
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Montmartre and Sacre Coeur are very visible from many places in Paris. This picture was taken from the terrace at Musee d'Orsay in the 7th.
    .
Another great spot is at the top of the escalators at Centre Pompideau in the Marais.
    .
And you can see Sacre Coeur from the RER train coming in from Charles de Gaulle Airport. That's when I know I'm really in Paris!

Dining & Drinking: Have a "glace"
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Otherwise known as ice cream:)
Here the ordering options are made clear! This small shop was on rue Mouffetard in the Latin Quarter.
    .
The best "glace" in Paris is considered to be Berthillon on Ile St. Louis.

Montmartre & Sacré Coeur: When you ring ...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: ... he sings -- a sundial on the side of a Montmartre house just down the hill from Sacre Coeur. Obviously a reference to a rooster's propensity for early morning crowing ... In any neighborhood in Paris looking at the details is important.

Montmartre & Sacré Coeur: Inside the dome ...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: ... of Sacre-Coeur. Most of the pictures are of the wedding-cake exterior. They miss the inside which is much more interesting :)
    .
Apparently you can no longer take pictures inside -- or no one stopped me:)))

General Tips: A roof with a view ... NOW CLOSED
  • Tip Rating:
  • Paris - The Seine from La Samaritaine
  • The Seine from La Samaritaine
  • by shrimp56

  • Favorite Thing: La Samaritaine is now closed so this view is no longer available at any price!
    -----------
They've made it so you are supposed to get something to eat in order to enjoy the view at the top of La Samaritaine department store. We did buy a drink, but you can snap the view from the side without coming to the attention of the "keepers"

Louvre: Don't miss the details! [Louvre]
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: We tend to focus on the Pei pyramid and the contents of the Louvre, but don't miss the details of the building itself!
    .
It was built between 1546 and 1878 and spent its first 200 years as a royal palace. It was turned into a museum in 1793 after the French Revolution. You can see the various periods in its architecture.

Shrimp, Love your page, but I ate at L'Ecluse (Grand Augustins) in October and tried the Tagliatelle - it was horrible! The pasta was rubbery and the foie gras was the worst I had. Not your fault, but I wouldn't eat there again.
