The first floors of many of these houses are open to the street. Here various laborers fix various mechanical items, from motorbike engines to small appliances. Historically those working on a specific kind of task would be grouped in the same street.

The Vietnamese are avid sports fans, particularly for football. This was the victory celebration the evening that the Vietnamese Women's team won their match in the SEA Games.

This young boy didn't seem to understand why we wanted to take his picture [our group was from Chicago:))] -- he was working at a small shop selling SEA Game t-shirts and Vietnamese flags. In the spirit of the celebration underway in the streets we all stocked up!

Well at least in the tourist hotels -- including some dreadful music. ["Frosty the Snowman" etc...] This was the case in Thailand and Cambodia-- even the bar waitresses were dressed in little santa outfits. It was weird in Thailand and Cambodia, but more understandable in Vietnam, which has a Catholic tradition.
