It's still Saigon to many residents of what was renamed Hi Chi Minh City after the fall of the South Vietnamese government on April 30, 1975. . Saigon is crowded noisy, vital and full of capitalist fervor and energy. A city combining traditional hand labor and the sleek monuments of New Asia. . The picture above is The celebration in downtown Saigon of the women's football win [soccer to us statesiders!] in the South East Asia Games being held in Hanoi during our visit. The street was thronged with happy folks on motorbikes -- waving flags, cheering and generally in good humor. |
| | The interior of the post office is impressive and is overseen by a large portrait of Ho Chi Minh of course! |
The Cholon Market is primarily wholesale, but it is the heart of the large Chinese community in Saigon. | | |
