The rooftop. FIND a way in. There is no experience like it. When I lived in Chinatown I didn't have a/c and spent every night for several hours on my rooftop on Elizabeth Street. It was like being in another city. See if your hotel has rooftop access or check with any friends/acquaintences you might know. Peace. Quiet. Potential for solitude. Tranquil breezes. Great place to contemplate anything from your future to suicide. --this is New York? you'll marvel.

Nightlife Spot: 9C
This is currently one of my favorite bars (and has been for about 4 years, since I used to live a few blocks away). Excellent juke box. They also have live music (I believe it's honkey tonk on Sunday nights)--check the newspapers for listings or call. This is a place where the locals go. Young, hip crowd (think of what your typical East Village person-who probably now lives in Brooklyn b/c the rents are too high- might look like).

Dress Code: Tattoos. Piercings. Bangs. Vintage clothes. Trashy rock n roll gear. You get the idea. But really, anything goes. It's not a snobby type of place.
Directions: VERY easy to remember. 9th street. Avenue C :)

Sipping cocktails in a bordello atmosphere!!!! Think velvet coaches and draperies. Think debauchery. Think of yourself as a flapper getting drunk and finding some action for the night. YUM.
