Joi In New York

by Razorart - last update: Sep 11, 2002

New York: After 9/11 will it ever be the same? I think so. I mean, no one who lives here, or has ever visited will ever forget, but what is now a somewhat discouraged city is slowly but surely getting its...balls back :)

I guess this is to say, Don't stay away, if you want to come here. I wrote about my experiences thus far a bit further down under "General Tips."

One, word, though. Please be respectful regarding the site of Ground Zero. I know of tourists going around and bluntly asking New Yorkers where they can get tickets to the viewing platform. I just think that is tacky (not that I don't think people should go see it, if they want to do so).

Personally, I haven't been to the WTC since this past November, before they put up the viewing platform. It's somewhat sickening to see people running all around over there, buying "WTC souvenirs" like it's Disneyland. I'm glad I went when I did, right after it happened. That's an experience I will never forget.

This is a picture of my friend (also on VT), Jen "Beatchik" and I during her last visit to NYC.

So, my "home" page.

I was born in Jamaica, Queens, grew up on Long Island, went to NYU, lived in various parts of downtown and now live in Brooklyn and work in the Bronx.

This page will *not* be your typical NYC page. There are enough pages with typical tourist content. You all know you want to go to the Statue of Liberty, the Met, Chinatown, etc. etc.

Instead, here will be some tips for sightseeing, lounging, people watching, eating, nightcrawling, etc. from someone who has lived here her whole life and is pretty jaded at this point about New York City (and yet I can't seem to get up and move somewhere else!).

I will be adding to this page quite regularly!

Please also visit my Brooklyn page, because I don't think it's right to come to New York City and only see the borough of Manhattan. There is a lot to see in Brooklyn, such as Coney Island, as well as the interesting homes, stores, parks, etc.
Restaurants are often less expensive/more value.
Don't miss Brooklyn!!!
