I found Adelaide like a big country town with nice parks and gardens.
We moved there for hubby's work, doing environmental landcare projects.
We lived at Jamestown - mid north and Edithburgh in the little foot bit west of Adelaide called the Yorke Peninsular. Both had different charaters. Jamestown had the good old country charm and Edithburgh is a very quiet coastal village.
I found 3 nice things to do in South Australia -
1. South Australia is famous for good red wines. Most people have heard of the Barossa Valley as this is where wineries such as Jacobs Creek, Penfolds, Wolf Blass and Banrock Station are found. But my favourite wineries are situated in the Clare Valley - Annies Lane and Jim Barry. And in actual fact, the Clare Valley is closer to Adelaide.
SA has a lot of 'Ports!' - Pt Augusta, Pt Pirie, Pt Adelaide, Pt Lincoln, Pt Elliot, Pt Noarlunga, Pt Gawler, Pt, Willunga, Pt MacDonnell and a whole heap on the Yorke Peninsula and Eyre Peninsula.
- Pros:Gateway to famous Clare Valley and Barossa Valley Wineries.
- Cons:Nothing much interesting in Adelaide City.
- In a nutshell:Only stay in Adelaide if you have seen the rest of Australia first.

Thanks for a view of Adelaide. My oldest son was there for an AllStar Baseball game when he was younger. Now I know why he enjoyed his time there, great parks, including baseball parks.
Yes, I too remember Adelaide mostly for the lovely parks there.

I may have to come to Adelaide in my Aus trip, yes I promise I will do it but most likely Melbourne, Sydney & Adelaide are the most doable in short time??
Great page of Adelaide. Adelaide is the twin city of George Town, Penang. The founder of George Town, Captain Francis Light was the uncle of the founder of Adelaide.
Adelaide looks great in autumn colours! And next time I have to see the Flinders Ranges...
