And what a wonderful time we had!! More about that in the travelogues below.
Well I can guarantee you will not be short of things to see and do in Darwin! Darwin is the gateway to the far north and wonderful National Parks with diverse landscape and lovely waterfalls and rock pools..... and Crocs ;o)
Hubby and I loved Darwin because of the tropical feel, very friendly people and laid back atmosphere......oh and great fishing! :o) We loved Darwin so much that we are thinking of retiring here.
Just recently Darwin has become an easy way to enter Australia, especially if you can get cheap flights to Singapore. That way you get to experience Singapore as well ;o) ...and fly into Australia via Darwin. Also, if you want to experience some of Australia's great outback and perhaps hire a car to check out Kakadu, Katherine, Mataranka and back up through Litchfield National Park.....then you will have the most fantastic experience with plenty of stories to write home about!! :o)
Our Darwin experience was part of the 2008 big downunder vt meet arranged by resident vt'er and National Park Ranger Zig (1+1). If you want to know any local knowledge about Darwin and surrounds, then Zig is the man to email here on vt :o) .... Anyway....on to our fantastic Darwin experience.....
Zig (aka 1+1)!!...the man of the Day!! ...arranged everything. And what an awesome job he did!!
The big Darwin Survivor meet was in 2 parts. 1st one was the official Survivor Trip where 12 of us loaded into 2 troup carriers along with our tents, food, VA's (that's Virtual Attendies) and stuff and ventured off into the unknown.
The 2nd part was the big weekend where we boasted about our outback adventures to the other mob that joined us :o) And of course, in line with the true vt nature, plenty of drinks and laughter ensued and a good time was had by all!!
WTF?....Where's Noonamah?!!......check out the travelogues for details :o)
Then follow along with me while I tell the big story about our outback survivor trip by clicking the link on the last travelogue here.
Hopefully we can entice you too to join us on one of our big fun downunder meets :o)
- Pros:Casual, friendly locals. Laid back atmosphere. Plenty of beer. Gateway to wild Australian outback country, National Parks, Waterfalls, Gorges, Rock pools, Aboriginal culture, washouts, 4x4 driving etc.
- Cons:High humidity just before monsoon season.
- In a nutshell:An interesting option to enter Australia via Singapore.

Your tour is more organized than mine....Well done
Marg
We just did not make Noonamah but we met Zig in Darwin
Yes, Zig has a lovely spot there at Noonamah. Very homely. We've been there a few times now and always enjoy ourselves :o)
Hi Annie
I so enjoyed 'virtually' revisiting this old stamping ground of mine! Thanks for the tour (and have a fistful of ratings for your effort!)
Regards
Cathy
That must have been a great trip...Guess what...Davids cousin runs the bottleat Noonamah...and lives at Humpty Doo. Engaged to a trucker. I told Zig to call in.! M ps I used global gossip too.
Don't you dare force-feed me Vegemite!! Bleurgh! Gillybob greetings
Just checking your tips again..not long before I head here. Alicex
Darwinites, hehehe! Amazing crocs and really wild! I've never held one and it amazes how brave people can be...I'll probably jump away from it...LOL...Charlies still looks good!Norman :)
Sunset in sailing club is fantastic. food is good and nice music. One major drawback is the attitude of the bar manager is rude and not friendly. I would recommend the trailer boat club next to the sail club. Much better services with same view!
Great page Ms Rose...Looks like the Meet was a complete HOOT!!! Give me a "heads up" when the next one's going on PLEASE PLEASE!!!It certainly looks like a lot of fun was had!!
Looks like you all had a smashin' time in Darwin. Great t-logs. That is one amazing sunset pic. Have a great week matey. xxx Lori
