Tips 1 - 10 of 10 Perth Off The Beaten Path

Margaret River is a fantastic destination! It is 4 hours south of Perth and there are so many things to do down in that area that I would suggest you stay at the very least 2 nights. Yes, people do day trips, but you would be spending a lot of the day on the bus. Anyway, Margaret River is famous for it's wines and surf. Surfing competitions are held all the time in Margaret River. It also has some lovely caves to explore and there's other stuff to do in and around the area. I love Margaret River and I'm sure you will too!! Margaret River

Want to experience stunning deserted beaches? How about 'free!' camping right on the beach? And what about catching fresh fish every day? Then you seriously need to visit Hopetoun. Hopetoun is about 8 hours from Perth, down the bottom between Albany and Esperance. You have to turn off at Ravensthorpe to get there. If you want to check out more about Hopetoun, then please come share with me our family camping holiday by clicking the link below.Hopetoun

Esperance is 8 hours from Perth. If you decide to see the bottom half of Western Australia, and I suggest it is a magnificant part of the world, then the best thing to do is travel south via Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, (Side trip to Augusta), Pemberton, Walpole, Denmark, Albany, Hopetoun and Esperance and then back up through the centre, stopping along the way at Hydon to see wave rock - (8 hour day trip from Esperance up through the centre). Esperance in my opinion has the most pretties beach in Australia (sorry Whitehaven, QLD). Cape Le Grande National Park is awesome and Manjimup Swamp is not to be missed either.Esperance

This is an amazing site!! Strange rock formation hey!! It's even better walking underneath it and looking up. You'll find it right in the scrub in the middle of nowhere just west of Margaret River. You can do a day trip there and it's definately well worth it!!
Wave Rock is located at Hyden which is in between Perth and Esperance so if you are doing the bottom half on Australia then my suggestion is to go south via Margaret River and Albany, cut across the bottom to Esperance and then up through Lake King past Hyden & Wave Rock back to Perth. Quite an adventure....and well worth doing :o)

If you are travelling north and like camping, then do not miss an overnight stay at the little caravan park at Guilderton. It has cabins too. Guilderton is only about 1 and a half hours up the Waneroo Road from Perth so you can even do a comfortable day trip as well. If you love beaches, if you love boating on the river, if you love fishing, if you love BBQ's, if you have children, then Guilderton (or Moore River as us locals call it) is a must! Guilderton

We went to Geraldton recently - about 4 hours north of Perth and these leaning trees were funny and fascinating. Hubby and I had a lovely time (without kids :o) and found the accommodation we picked was very recommendable. Please check out my Geraldton page especially if you are looking for a B&B to stay on your trip north of Perth.Geraldton

Monkey Mia is north of Perth. It takes a full day to get there so you might want to stay a few days, or fly. Everyone goes to feed the dolphins. I havn't been here yet, but I can't wait!! Stay tuned for more info and pics!!!

Enjoy bushwalking? Would you like to see a kangaroo in the wild? Love various wildlife including a variety of birds? Then pack a picnic or grab some sausauges and salad and head of up north about 1 hour drive to Yanchep National Park. There's lots more to do there like hire a boat, visit the caves, learn about Aboriginal tribal dance and see the koalas. Interested?....then check out my link below.YanchepUpdate - the local coast road Marmion Avenue has opened up to Yanchep so a nice way of getting there by car is to take the Mitchell Highway north to the end then hang a left to Marmion Avenue, go right and continue on to Yanchep.

I have lived in Perth for 6 years and never visited this place until just recently. After the big vt meet in Perth - April 2007, a small group of us decided on the spur of the moment to jump in the car and head up north about 3 and a half hours drive to check out the Pinnacles....and we were not dissapointed. I totally recommend you do this trip and I'd like to share with you our adventure - link below
Pinnacles
Pinnacle Tours have been recommended to me by a few visitors to Perth. I see their buses all the time here in Perth - so I'd like to recommend that you choose this company if you are doing a day trip to the Pinnacles - see the website below.

To get to all of the above places and more, a good way is to take an organised tour. I've seen this company around town and they are obviously very reputable here in Perth and I've checked out their site which is by the way is very well done. Anyway, if you are interested then just click the link below.
